Sniper match on July 19. Acceptable rifles would be the same as in our ViMBAR match, but equipped with a fixed power scope of 6X or less (we'll call these "makeup" sniper rifles). The shooter could also use an original equipment sniper rifle such as the 91/33s available now, a Swedish, or Swiss sniper rifle. We had an experimental match during our September ViMBAR match with two original rifles and two makeup rifles. Results seemed to be similar amongst all the rifles, so there doesn't appear to be any advantage or disadvantage with either type.
F-Class type match on August 23. The F-Class match is a long range high power rifle match that is a sub-discipline of NRA Fullbore Rifle competition. It is based on the use of very accurate bolt-action rifles, and can be shot at various ranges from 300 yards to 1,000 yards at paper targets. You can review the NRA rules for this match including the rifles, equipment, and ammunition here: http://www.nrahq.org/compete/rules/fullbore_07.pdf While we do not have the facilities to comply with all of the range requirements to conduct a full-blown NRA sanctioned F-Class match, we find the context of the match very interesting and think that we can adapt a match to our range.
Equipment: We will have two classes: F-Class Open Rifle (F-O), and F-Class Target Rifle (F-T/R). Rifles and their associated equipment will be required to comply with the NRA F-Class Rifle rules (see pages 42-44 of the NRA Fullbore Rules).
Ammunition: Ammunition must comply with the NRA F-Class rules.
Course of fire: We will shoot three matches, each consisting of 20 shots. Ten shots for record at 600 yards and ten shots for record at 1000 yards. An Aggregate for the 60 shots will determine the match winners, and awards will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. Shooting will be conducted in the same fashion as our Long Range Buffalo Match. Each shooter will fire one shot per turn in line order. Two sighting shots will precede shots for record. All shooting will be from the prone position as per the NRA rules.
Targets: The 600 yard target is a 30" diameter steel disc with a 6" center swinger.
The 1,000 yard target is a 48" diameter steel disc with a 10" center swinger.
Entries are limited to 40 shooters. The match will begin promptly at 0900. Sight-in period will be from first light to 0830. Fee for the match will be $25.00. Ribbons will be awarded for the top three competitors in the match aggregate. Many other prizes will be drawn. The range will be open on Friday prior to the match.
