MAY 2010 HUNTER RIFLE MATCH

We would like to announce the results of our first Hunter Rifle Steel Match at the Golden Spike Buffalo Range. We only had 10 shooters, but we did have an excellent shoot and everyone agreed it was a good course and a lot of fun.

Scott Grange, the Browning PR guy, won the match with a score of 54 3X with an A-Bolt Mtn Ti in .270WSM. Marcus Heath, a Browning QA Engineer took second, shooting a 54 1X with a X-Bolt in .300WSM. Nick Schafer, also a Browning R&D Engineer came in third, with a score of 51 4X shooting another X-Bolt in .300WSM. (Hmm... do I see some kind of trend here? Nahh!)

Anyway, the course proved to have challenges for everyone. Targets ranged from the Prairie Dog at 118 yards to the Bull Elk at 618 yards. Andrew Chamberlain thought that the off-hand pig at position 3 was too tough, and offered a $20 prize to the first shooter who hit it. Of course, that was too much. Nick hit it twice, and won a copy of Andrew's book, Cartridge Comparison Guide, for his efforts. The course was so much fun Jim Secrist and Denny Wilcox stayed out and shot it again on Sunday morning.

The weather forecast seems to have scared the lightweights off. Although it rained very hard overnight on Friday, the weather on Saturday morning actually turned out to be OK. The ground was surprisingly dry. It was breezy and a bit cool, and there were broken clouds for the match. However, that's why they call those guys on the TV news the "weather guessers", and we've learned over the years that you can't expect the weather along the Wasatch to match what's going on out at Promontory. So, in the future, if you have any doubts give us a call out at the range. We'll give you our cell phone numbers if you want them.

Scott Grange and Andrew Chamberlain took a lot of pictures of the match. Once all the photos are compiled, they will be posted on our photo and video page. But for now, you can link to the pictures that Andrew took by clicking HERE.

This was our first match of the year, and the forecast frightened away a lot of shooters. Although it looked threatening all day, any rain we had was no more than a light drizzle. The sun even popped out from time to time. Weather was definitely much better than forecast with little precipitation. Temp 32-48 Winds NW @ 5-10mph.
It was a small group, mainly comprised of shooters from the Las Vegas area, and as you can imagine, they took home most of the prizes.
